Shopify Store Redesign

A Shopify store redesign rebuilds the look, layout and user experience of an existing Shopify store without changing platforms. Your products, customers, orders and content stay in the admin, while Ecomzier designs and builds a new theme, tests it as an unpublished copy and publishes it only after you approve.

When does a Shopify store need a redesign?

A redesign is worth it when the theme itself holds the store back. These are the signs we look for in a Shopify store redesign audit.

Your theme is not Online Store 2.0

Older themes lack JSON templates, sections on every page and app blocks, so every content change needs a developer and apps leave code behind when removed.

Mobile pages feel slow

Shopify's web performance dashboard rates LCP, INP and CLS from real visitors. Good means 2.5 seconds, 200 milliseconds and 0.1 or less (Shopify Help Center).

Shoppers get lost

Deep menus, weak search, thin filters and product pages that bury size, delivery and returns information push visitors away before they add to cart.

Your brand has moved on

New positioning, photography or product lines that the current design cannot present well, so the site no longer looks like the business.

Years of patches in the code

Leftover snippets from uninstalled apps, duplicated scripts and one off edits that make every change risky and slow the theme down.

Accessibility gaps

Low contrast, missing alt text, unlabeled buttons and keyboard traps that shut out customers and expose the business to complaints.

What stays and what changes in a Shopify redesign

Changing themes does not touch your store data. Shopify confirms that products, collections, menus, pages and blog posts are managed in the admin, separate from the theme, while theme settings and code customizations belong to each theme (Shopify Help Center).

Part of your storeIn a redesignWhat we do
Products, collections and inventoryStaysNothing moves. We may improve descriptions, images and metafields for the new layouts.
Customers and order historyStaysUntouched. Accounts, orders and analytics history continue as before.
Pages, blog posts and menusStaysContent stays in the admin; menus are restructured if the navigation changes.
Section and block settingsChangesRebuilt in the new theme, since settings do not carry over between themes.
Colors, fonts and global settingsChangesSet from the approved design system.
Code customizationsChangesReviewed one by one: kept and rewritten, replaced by a native feature or dropped.
URLsUsually staysProduct and collection URLs do not change with a theme. If handles change, we add URL redirects.

Our Shopify store redesign process

Six steps. Your current store keeps selling until the new theme is published.

  1. Step 01

    Audit

Analytics, speed, accessibility, apps and theme code are reviewed, with the pages that lose the most visitors first.

  2. Step 02

    UX plan

Navigation, page templates and wireframes are agreed, based on how your customers actually shop.

  3. Step 03

    Design

Desktop and mobile designs in Figma, built into a reusable design system of colors, type and components.

  4. Step 04

    Build

The new theme is built as an unpublished theme in your store, so your live site is never touched.

  5. Step 05

    Test

Devices, browsers, apps, checkout, speed, accessibility and tracking are tested on the preview.

  6. Step 06

    Launch and measure

We publish when you approve, keep the old theme as a fallback and compare results after launch.

Shopify store redesign FAQ

Will a Shopify redesign hurt my SEO?

Not when it is planned. Product, collection and page URLs do not change when you switch themes. We keep titles, meta descriptions and content, check headings and structured data in the new theme and add URL redirects for any handle that changes.

Will I lose products, customers or orders?

No. Products, collections, menus, pages and blog posts are managed in the admin, separate from the theme, so switching themes does not change or delete them (Shopify Help Center). Customers and orders are not part of the theme either.

Can my store stay live during the redesign?

Yes. We build the new theme as an unpublished theme in your theme library and you review it through a preview link. Your current theme keeps selling until you approve and we publish.

Should we use a Theme Store theme or a custom theme?

It depends on how distinctive the design must be and who will edit it. A Theme Store theme gives a tested Online Store 2.0 base that meets Shopify's Theme Store requirements. A custom theme fits brands with unusual layouts or features. We recommend one after the audit.

How many themes can we keep in Shopify while testing?

Basic, Grow and Advanced plans can hold up to 20 themes, and Shopify Plus up to 100 (Shopify Help Center). That leaves room for the live theme, the redesign and a backup copy.

How long does a Shopify store redesign take?

It depends on the number of templates, custom features, apps and content that need rework, and on how quickly designs are approved. You receive a schedule with milestones after the audit, before any work is quoted.

Can you redesign checkout too?

Checkout branding and checkout extensions are set up separately from the theme. Customizing the information, shipping and payment steps requires Shopify Plus (Shopify Help Center). We include checkout in the redesign scope when it applies.
